Gold Price Watcher is a simple widget built on the Yahoo! Widget platform, that lets you keep track of the current gold price on your desktop, as the name says. It provides information based on the Kitco.com website, and is simple to install and configure.

The interface of Gold Price Watcher is based on a small frame that can be moved to any position on the screen, with the help of the mouse cursor. Combined with the default option provided by Yahoo! Widget Engine, which can make the frame stay on top of other windows, the widget is ideal to use when you're working on multiple applications, as you can get a quick glimpse of the gold price.
Additional market details (aside from the current gold price) is revealed when you hover the mouse cursor over the widget panel, namely the highest and lowest recorded gold value, and change compared to the previous price.
It is possible to modify the frame size, reconnect to the Kitco.com website if any such errors occur, as well as to reload the widget. From the Widget Preferences you can change the numeric type and updating interval, resize the display panel accurately, and hide market details.
Thanks to the Yahoo! platform's built-in options, you can also enable the frame to stay below all the other windows, to ignore mouse events and to prevent dragging. Moreover, you can set its opacity level to a preset value, ranging from 20% to 100%.
The widget does not put a strain on the computer's overall performance, as it uses a very light quantity of CPU and RAM. Unfortunately, Gold Price Watcher has not been updated for a very long time, and it is not compatible with newer OS platforms. Plus, the Yahoo! Widget Engine project has been discontinued a while back.
