A movie is made so you understand the whole message through all its details, including voice acting. Chances are sound effects overlap voice, and this is where subtitles come in handy. In case you want to create your own, iToolSoft Movie Subtitle Editor comes with the right set of tools for this task.

With the application up and running, the first thing that needs to be done is to load a video. Drag and drop is not supported, so you need to rely on the browse dialog. Supported files allow you to work with clips under formats like AVI, MPG, WMV, QT, VCD, ASF, and ASX. There’s also the possibility to load an existing subtitle SRT file to tweak timing, or modify entries.
The main window is pretty intuitive, and visually appealing, letting anyone get acquainted with the set of features in the blink of an eye. There’s a large preview area with dedicated playback controls so you can skip through content, and pause whenever text needs to be added. A list shows all items with details for time, and text.
For a subtitle to be properly added, you need to specify start and end times, otherwise simply hitting the “insert subtitle” button discards all changes. With the start time set, all text goes in a dedicated field, also showing up in the preview area.
The subtitle item itself can be positioned by dragging it over the video in the preview area. This comes in handy, because you’re not limited to a single line of text, nor time specifications other than manual input.
Unfortunately, the whole creation process can be a little difficult in terms of synchronization. This is mostly because of the lack of hotkey support, so you need one hand on the mouse to pause the video at just the right time. It would have also come in handy to sync subtitles in a timeline editor, which sadly, isn’t included in edit options.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that iToolSoft Movie Subtitle Editor is a practical application with which you can create embedded subtitles for movies, or as external SRT files. Although the editing process itself can be a little difficult to master, a little effort invested in accommodation helps you easily create subtitles for any kind of video.
